Open Source, Windows Compatible OS? ReactOS. -
Whilst trolling some of my usual online haunts, I came across ReactOS, an Open Source project which aims to create a Windows XP compatible operating system.
The ReactOS team are apparently working closely with the WINE team, and some of the code is shared, but whilst WINE only provides windows emulation for some applications, ReactOS is a complete operating system which means that you can not only run windows applications, but also use windows device drivers.
Check out the screenshots page on the ReactOS website here, to see some of the applications which can run on this OS. It's currently in alpha-testing, so it still has a long way to go, but from what I've seen, it's pretty cool.
Now the question everyone's asking, does it have the Blue Screen Of Death?
Happy New Year!
